Mumbai:
The satellite city is all set to add another feather to its cap. The work on first phase of metro rail from Belapur to Pendhar will commence within a couple of months. According to sources, the Urban Development Department has issued instructions to this effect to the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO).
The planning agency had recently held a pre-bid meeting to appoint a general consultant for the project. According to information, the estimated cost of the first phase is around Rs 1,694 crore. The work is expected to be completed by December 2013. "A consortium of domestic and international experts will work as general consultant for the entire project. We have to depend on foreign experts for execution of the project since the state-of-the-art expertise is not available in India," a senior CIDCO official said. Initially, the general consultant will supervise the execution of Line 1 of the Metro Rail from Belapur to Pendhar. "The scope of the work would be expanded as per the progress in the work," the official added. The planning agency has also invited applications for Via Duct. "It is the civil work for elevated corridor. The consultant for the same would also be appointed in two months," the official said.
Sources said that the second and third phase of the work is likely to commence in December 2015 and December 2018 respectively.
