Mumbai: Youth killed in pub brawl

Mumbai: In yet another case of pub brawl turning fatal, 22-year-old Nazir Sheikh was killed after the fight between two groups which started as a verbal duel but turned into a fist fight.

The incident occurred on the night of October 10, when two groups of young men were embroiled in a verbal fight at a discotheque in Khar. The fight broke out after one of the men in the group allegedly pushed a girl, who was at the discotheque with another group.

The verbal fight soon turned ugly, and a beer bottle was smashed on Sheikh's head. While three people, including a bouncer were injured, Sheikh succumbed to his injuries on Friday night.

This is only one in a string of similar cases. Earlier, celebrity DJ Aqeel was allegedly beaten at a pub at Worli's Atria mall, which he co-owns. In another instance in May this year, Lalit Modi's son Ruchir was allegedly involved in an incident at a premier lounge bar in Colaba where some unidentified guests threw alcohol at him.

An investigating officer from Khar police station said, "The fight was between a group of men from Khar and another set from Dharavi. None of the men are from affluent families, and some have are previous law offenders. They were drunk, and after a verbal altercation over a girl, they got into a physical fight. When the bouncer intervened, he was beaten up too."

Police inspector Baburao Mokerkar said, "One accused has been arrested, while other two are wanted."
