Moga:
A local court has rejected a prosecution plea seeking cancellation of bail of an India-born Canadian citizen facing charges of murdering former MLA Nachattar Singh Gill, father of Punjab DGP P S Gill.
The prosecution had filed an application in the court last week seeking cancellation of Jagdev Singh's bail on the ground that the police had found "more evidence" of his involvement in the case.
However, the defence objected to it, saying that the police wanted to "eliminate him in a false encounter."
The case had come up before Additional Sessions Judge Amarjot Kaur Bhatti, who rejected the plea.
Gill was murdered in 1991 and an FIR was registered against Jagdev's family and three others. However, Jagdev left the country and settled in Canada.
Last year, he had come back and surrendered before the court. The court granted him bail on April 6 this year.
However, on August 4, police again took him into custody and registered a fresh FIR on charges of submitting false documents to get a police clearance certificate to obtain Canadian citizenship.
