Muzaffarnagar: A man who claims to be a riot victim in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar district and was displaced after the riots last September, tried to commit suicide out the District Magistrate's office.
25-year-old Mohommad Adil, a resident of Mohommadpur Rai Singh village, claims he was one of those who fled his village after the riots broke out last year and deserved the Rs 5 lakh compensation that the state government is offering to those who had abandoned their homes.
He says that despite repeated requests to the district admin he failed to benefit from the scheme.
Today, he doused himself with diesel and tried to set himself on fire. He was stopped by the cops and was whisked away.
The administration says they will verify whether his case is genuine or not and decide to compensate him accordingly.
