In a bizarre twist to the Muzaffarnagar honour killing case, Anshu and Ajit Saini who were allegedly killed by the girl's family walked into the Muzaffarpur police station - alive. This less than 24 hours after the woman's brother confessed to killing them, in a suspected case of honour killing.

"Yes, I killed him to protect family honour," Anuj Tomar had said on May 8.

The police thought this confession was enough to believe Anshu and her husband Ajit were killed. They arrested Anshu's brother and father, but on Sunday the couple proved the police wrong.

"When they read the newspapers that reported their killing, Ajit Saini called his uncle, and told him that they had been to Delhi, then to Haridwar, where they stayed in three different hotels, and then when they were on their way to Bijnore, they decided to go to the police station and tell the police that they are alive," said Brijlal, ADG, Law and Order.

Police claim the man's relatives identified the body and with no forensic evidence, they relied on the accused's confession.

But now the accused claims the police forced him to confess.

"I confessed under pressure from the police. I wanted to protect my family," said Anuj Tomar, Anshu tomar's brother.

The police are now in a bind. They have found two bodies - that of a man and a woman, but have no concrete evidence to nail the suspects who they claim committed the murders.
