Nagpur:
Twenty eight people, including a BJP corporator, were arrested for allegedly indulging in gambling in the city, police said today.
A police team, led by Deputy Commissioner of Police zone-1 Abhinash Kumar, yesterday raided a premises in Itwari area of the city where gambling was going on, a police release issued in Nagpur said.
Twenty seven mobile handsets and Rs 7.81 lakhs cash was recovered from the place, belonging to alleged criminal Ashok Bavaji, who gave the police a slip during the raid, it said.
One of those arrested, corporator Ramesh Punekar (BJP), had earlier also been held from a gambling den, police said in the release.
All the 28 arrested, including some traders and social workers, were later released on bail, police added.
