Nagpur: About 19.86 lakh voters will exercise their franchise to elect 144 corporators from among 1,233 candidates in the fray for the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) polls on Thursday.
Out of the total 145 NMC seats, one candidate has already been elected unopposed, as his only other contender had withdrawn his application earlier.
There are 10.22 lakh male and 9.63 lakh female voters together in 12 'prabhagh' (multi member wards).
The total number of polling booths is 2,487, including 195 sensitive ones.
The election machinery is gearing up for a smooth conduct of polls, for which, 4,500 electronic voting machines will be used, sources said.
About 12,000 polling staff, supported by 8,500 security personnel, will be on toes during the polls, police said adding that as part of preventive measures, police have externed 15 persons, who allegedly pose a threat to the smooth conduct of polls.
