Nagpur: Class 7 girl sexually assaulted and burnt, battles for life

Nagpur: An under construction building in the busy Manish Nagar area of Nagpur became the site of a horrific crime on Friday morning. A minor girl was found there burning. The doctors at Government Medical College and Hospital attending to her said she had sustained 95 per cent burn injuries and appeared to have been sexually assaulted and then burnt.

Locals from the area say they heard a girl screaming and saw smoke billowing from the third floor when they called the police. The police found the girl burnt and alongside her, a knife, a cake box, a few burnt clothes and liquor bottles.

The girl, still unconscious and now battling for her life, is a seventh standard student and daughter of a labourer couple from Madhya Pradesh. She was missing since 3pm on Thursday. Her parents then registered a complaint. The girl's statement has not yet been recorded.

Locals say the construction work at the site of the crime has been stalled since two years and has often been inhabited by antisocial elements.

The police are now looking for clues to identify the perpetrators of the crime.
