Sirsa, Haryana: The national flag was hoisted upside down during the Independence Day celebrations in Sirsa today causing an embarrassment to state authorities.
People attending the Independence Day function at the local Shaheed Bhagat Stadium here were surprised to notice the tricolour being unfurled upside down by Haryana Transport Minister O P Jain.
It was only after all the ceremony had ended that a media person pointed out the act of negligence, but by then it was too late and the episode had caused great umbrage to the people.
District officials, including Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent of Police, and SDM S K Jain were among others sitting on the dais during the function.
Later, the minister said an inquiry would be ordered to fix the responsibility on the erring official.
