Mumbai: A delivery boy for a telecommunications company was allegedly stabbed to death metres away from his doorstep by three of his neighbours last afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Vijay Chotelal Saroj (22), a resident of Jagdusha Nagar in Ghatkopar (West).
According to onlookers, three of Saroj's neighbours had knocked on his door when he was taking an afternoon nap. He was dragged to a pole adjacent to his house and stabbed in the neck with a dagger. He was rushed to the Rajawadi hospital in Ghatkopar where he was declared dead on arrival.
Saroj was the sole breadwinner in his family of four. "He was going to start a job as a driver from April 1. He told me that I wouldn't have to worry anymore. Now that he's gone, what is to become of my family?" asked his mother Samrithi.
Santosh (16), Saroj's younger brother, said he tried to save him, but couldn't. "They turned on me. They had fought with Vijay over a small problem more than a year ago. We thought the matter had been resolved," he said. The accused have been identified as Sanju Kotekar, Amar Upshyam and Jeetu Pandey, all of whom are absconding. A case has been registered with the Pant Nagar police.
