Jaipur:
New Jaipur project, a hope of several citizens for a decent shelter, appears to be in cold storage. The state government is sitting over the housing project for almost one year and the area of the city has not even been demarcated.
Urban development and housing (UDH) minister Shanti Dhariwal announced the project in August last year. He said that the housing project will be developed in 105 sq km of land near Khonogorian area on Agra Road behind the Jhalana hills.
However, the UDH department has made a change and downsized the area from 105 sq km to 32 sq km and the department stated the reason as non-availability of land.
Incidentally, the department ordered to issue a notification of this downsize and send a file of this development for approval to chief minister's office (CMO). Meanwhile, the CMO had queried over the development and had asked reasons about the downsizing.
Sources said that the department has not received its reply so far. When contacted, UDH principal secretary GS Sandhu accepted that no substantial progress has been witnessed so far. "Yes, notification has not been issued of downsizing, and land also has not been demarcated too," he said. However, he did not comment on CMO's queries.
But the officers with JDA are accepting that the project does not seem to be progressing. A senior official said, "Now CMO has to take action on the file for approval. However, there seem to be very least chances for approval," he said.
The reasons were not specified but they accepted that project appeared to be not feasible. "Shanti Path tunnel, proposed to connect New Jaipur with current area of city through Jhalana area too, has not witnessed any progress. Both projects have least progressed," said a source.
