New Delhi: The residents of those unauthorized regularised colonies where building plans were not being sanctioned by the MCD so far, will now be able to get approved the same from the civic body.

A meeting of the MCD Standing Committee on Wednesday gave nod to a policy for approval of building plans in such colonies. However, the scheme will not be applicable for unauthorized colonies which got provisional certificates for regularization last year as their layout plans were still being made.

"There are a number of unauthorized regularised colonies in Delhi like Shakur Basti, Rani Bagh, Tri Nagar where building plans were not being sanctioned. Under the new policy, these can be done now," Standing Committee Chairman R K Singhal told reporters in New Delhi.

When it was pointed out that constructions are already there in such colonies, he said many buildings are old and need repairing. "It will be helpful for those residents who want to demolish their old buildings and get new ones constructed."

Singhal said the list of colonies where the policy will be applicable will be published and put on the Internet. "The new policy will help check corruption," he said.

The new proposal says that building plans in unauthorized regularized colonies should be sanctioned for all the plots including vacant plots forming part of approved regularization plan. This will not include space earmarked for roads and other community facilities.
