Newly married woman burnt in Rourkela

Rourkela: A newly married woman sustained severe burn injuries only two days after her marriage in an alleged dowry case at Shitalpara near Rourkela, police said today.

Archana Banwal (20) suffered severe burns and was rushed to the burn unit of Ispat General hospital after she allegedly doused herself with kerosene and set herself on fire in her in-laws' house on tuesday, police said.

Archana, daughter of Ranjitlal Banwal of Jharkhand had married Pramod Banwal of Rourkela only two days ago.

Archana's father after receiving information rushed to Rourkela along with relatives. He alleged that his daughter was set on fire because he failed to meet the demand of Rs. 50,000 and a motor bike as dowry.

However, her in-laws that Archana committed suicide as she was forcibly married against her will. Police filed a case in this connection and detained Archana's husband, Pramod.
