Nine held for murdering in-laws in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Nine persons, including a man who allegedly killed his wife and in-laws over a family dispute at Amberpet in Hyderabad, have been arrested, police said on Thursday.

Prime accused Syed Jahangir and his relatives, including four women, were arrested on Wednesday on the charges of criminally conspiring together and murdering Mohd Qamruddin and four members of his family at Premnagar locality on Sunday, they said.

Jahangir, with the help of his relatives, allegedly attacked Qamruddin's family members with iron rods resulting in the death of his wife Sajida Begum and sons - Mohd Abdullah and Mohd Kirmani, a police officer said, adding Jahangir's estranged wife Neha Afreen, who suffered serious injuries, died at a hospital on Wednesday.

Jahangir, an auto-rickshaw mechanic, married Neha two years ago, but she was staying with her parents for past sometime following differences between them.

Police said Neha had lodged a dowry harassment complaint against him and his parents a few months ago, after which Jahangir was arrested but was later released on bail.

"He bore a grudge against Qamruddin's family after his mother died in a road accident while returning home after attending court proceedings in connection with the dowry harassment case," a police officer said.

Meanwhile, Amberpet police have registered a case of murder and claimed to have recovered the weapons from the nine accused, who were sent in judicial remand on Thursday.
