Locals gather around the borewell the child fell into
Bharatpur, Rajasthan:
A nine-year-old boy slipped into a deep borewell in a village in Rajasthan's Karauli district on Wednesday. Efforts are on to rescue the child but there is no word yet on his health.
According to a senior police officer, the boy, Chotu, was flying a kite near his house in Charda Kala village near Hindon City in Karauli district, some 200 km from Jaipur, when he fell into the borewell about 3 pm on Wednesday.
Chotu's parents then informed the district administration, who launched a rescue operation in the evening.
"The boy is believed to be stuck around 100 feet down in the borewell which has a width of only one feet. The borewell which is used to draw ground water had been left open," said Hindon City Station House Officer, Anoop Singh.
"A hole parallel to the borewell is being dug to save the child. We are trying to get food and water to him," said the officer. "We are also planning to take help of the Army for this."
However, the boy's family members and villagers have accused the authorities of delaying the rescue operations due to lack of resources.
