Andhra Pradesh Assembly Speaker N Manohar today said that no time-frame could be put for taking a decision on the disqualification petitions pending with him against some MLAs.
He told reporters here today that a decision on the disqualification petitions is at the discretion of the Speaker.
"Replying to a notice by the Speaker is at the discretion of the MLAs, but the Speaker need not wait until the response came from a member of the House," he said.
The Speaker was replying to a query about the disqualification petitions pending with him against 17 MLAs, who violated the party whip during the recent vote of confidence on the floor of the house.
16 Congress MLAs and one Praja Rajyam MLA, all loyal to Kadapa MP Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, violated the whip during the trust vote against the Congress government recently.
The Speaker also said he would try to see that the House met for at least 60 days during a year. In 2011, the House met for 50 days.
