One killed in petrol station explosion in Maharashtra

Akola, Maharashtra: A person was on Monday killed in a blast at a petrol pump located in a busy area of the city on Akola-Murtizapur road in Maharashtra.

Prahlad Rathod, 30, an attendant at the Old Chawla petrol pump, was killed, police said.

The mishap occurred when fuel tank was being removed for maintenance while gas welding work was also on at the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) petrol pump, police said.

The impact of the explosion was such that parts of the petrol tank were blown meters away from the spot and window panes of the pump were shattered.

Police have registered a case in this connection and are investigating the circumstances that led to the mishap.
