Udhagamandalam:
A teenage girl, missing for the last 20 months from Udhagamandalam (also known an Ooty), was reunited to her parents, even as her husband and two others were arrested on charges of abduction and rape, police said on Friday. The girl also had a five-month-old baby with her.
According to police, two 15-year old school girls, Nandini and Sowmya, were reported missing from March 17, 2009.
Nandini had returned to the town in February, after telephoning her father, who has filed a habeas corpus petition in the Supreme Court.
Nandini then claimed that three men had taken them to Shimoga in Karnataka and made them work in poultry and sugarcane fields. She returned to Udhagamandalam as she was unable work further, she had said.
As Sowmya had married one of the persons and settled there, her father did not show any interest in bringing her back, police said.
The accused were taken into custody from Karnataka along with the girl and brought here today. The three were produced before the judicial magistrate, who remanded them to custody, police said, adding, the three were booked under various charges, including abduction and rape.
Sowmya, with her baby, was restored to her parents, police said without elaborating on the sudden development on bringing the three men to the town.
