Orissa: Man killed trying to save son from wild boar attack

Orissa: A man was killed while trying to save his son from the attack of an wild boar that also injured four persons in Orissa's Ganjam district on friday, official sources said.

The deceased was identified as 55-year-old Ranganath Sethi of Nayakpada village under Belaguntha block.

The animal first attacked Sethi's son Balaram while the father-son duo was working in their field. Sethi caught the boar by its head in his attempt to to save his son but got killed in the process.

The animal had also injured three others of the village besides Balaram before retreating to a bush.

The injured were battling for their lives in the sub divisional headquarters hospital at Bhanjanagar.

"We have not seen the condition of the animal. But it appeared to be furious, while attacking us", said Prasanna Sahu, one of the injured.

The animal might have become violent after being attacked by some people in the nearby Nimapadar village, S C Satrusalya, forest range officer, Buguda, said.

Meanwhile, the panicked villagers demanded to catch the wild boar immediately.

Satrusalya said forest personnel had been deployed in the village and search was on in the area to find the animal.
