Bhubaneswar: Teachers in all state-run elementary and upper primary schools in Orissa will have a dress code from September 15.
"Teachers, both male and female, will be wearing uniform from September 15. A circular in this direction has been issued," said School and Mass Education Secretary Aparajita Sarangi.
According to the circular, male teachers would wear black pants and sky blue shirts, while their woman counterparts have been instructed to don pink saris and black blouses.
"There is a relaxation for male teachers who are used to wear dhotis and female teachers donning salwar kurtas. They can continue with their dress, but in the prescribed colours," she said.
The government made the dress code mandatory for teachers after it was liked by the teaching fraternity in three places like Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and Berhampur, she said.
The state has about 56,000 elementary and upper primary schools where 1.60 lakh teachers are employed.
