On June 9, a 12-year-old boy Shivam was allegedly kidnapped from inside a colony in Kalkaji in Delhi. The boy's uncle Gajendra Kumar Mishra is an Income Tax Inspector.

Shivam was reportedly playing with other kids at the colony's garden. But when he didn't return till 9pm, his relatives got suspicious.

"He's my brother's son. He has been staying with me for the past two months. He and his elder brother came to Delhi recently seeking admission at a local school. They are entirely my responsibility.  If anything happens to them, the blame will lie with me. I've been unable to contact his father due to some communication problem. And I don't have the heart anyway. We are doing everything we can on our part," said Mishra.

"I am totally shocked. We've searched every possible area. He was very home sick but I know he'll never dare to leave this place, that too in the middle of the night without informing anyone," the boy's brother said.

The garden where the children were playing is located at the center of the residential colony. There are three gates to the block, but two of them remain closed at all times.

"We were playing in the garden till 8.30pm. There were very few people in the park, by the time we were heading home hardly anyone was there. I saw Shivam heading towards his home. Around 11.30 pm, we came to know he was missing when his uncle and other relatives started searching for him everywhere," said Riya  Rochwani, Shivam's friend.

"We don't allow any kid to go out of the campus even during the daytime. I didn't see any kid going out of the gate. My shift was till 8 pm. When the other watchman arrived, I went inside the room to change my clothes," said Umesh Rai, the colony watchman.

"We have registered a case of kidnapping. The investigations are on; the family has received no ransom calls so far," said a police officer.
