Patna:
Patna: A severe cold wave sweeping Bihar further plummeted the temperature as the state capital recorded the season's lowest of 4.9 degree Celsius on Thursday.
Met office Director (Patna) S I Lashkar said the temperature in Gaya registered 3.9 degree Celsius against yesterday's 5.9 degree Celsius.
Similarly, Bhagalpur and Purnia recorded minimum temperatures of 10.2 degree Celsius and 9 degree Celsius respectively, he said.
"The further drop in temperature is mainly because of western icy winds coming straight to Bihar from Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir and absence of cloud," he said.
Twenty-one people have so far died during the season in the state. While three persons died each in Patna, Kaimur, Gaya districts, five died in Kishanganj, two each died in Sheikhpura, Darbhanga, Araria and another died in Purnia.
Several parts of the state, particularly north Bihar districts, have been experiencing chilly conditions.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar visited different places in the state capital to oversee arrangements for bonfires and distributed blankets among poor people. All schools remained closed till Thursday.
