New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Wednesday suggested the city government ply a special bus for women on a trial basis.

A Division Bench of Chief Justice A P Shah and Justice S Muralidhar directed Transport Department officials to hold meetings with the senior police officers and explore if a special bus for women could be run.

The Bench specified that for an experiment basis, the government need not ply new buses but one or two buses from the present fleet can be used specially for women.

Appearing for the city government, counsel Najim Waziri submitted the government is waiting for the new buses in order to phase out blue line buses following the High Court's direction and the fleet of new buses were yet to reach.

The Bench was hearing a PIL seeking a direction to the government to ply buses especially for woman to avoid cases of molestation, harassment and other incidents relating to outrage of modesty of women passengers in crowded buses.
