In an unusual development, police have booked a man on charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder, for causing his own death while driving a motorcycle on Saturday.
The victim Prashant Govind Kataria (28) was riding a motorcycle and was passing through Cadbury side on the bridge on the Nashik bypass, when his motorcycle rammed into another vehicle. He was killed on the spot.
Following the incident, Thane police booked him on charges of section 304-A, 279,427 of the Indian Penal Court and said that he was not only responsible for his own death, but that he also caused damage to his motorbike.
According to Section 304 A (Causing death by negligence), whoever causes the death of any person by doing any rash or negligent act not amounting to culpable homicide, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to two years, or with fine, or with both.
