Mansa, Punjab: A shocking case of police brutality has emerged in Punjab after a cop was caught on camera brutally beating up a woman for allegedly selling illicit liquor.
The victim, along with another woman, was selling liquor without a licence in Mansa. The duo was then brought to the police station where they were thrashed by the cops.
"We are yet to see the clipping. We will take action after seeing the footage," PK Yadav, SSP, Mansa said.
The incident is yet another case of illegal use of force by authorities. Just last month, a village sarpanch in Muktsar district in the state slapped a woman teacher at a public function. This happened after the victim tried to submit a memo demanding permanent jobs for teachers to Harsimrat Kaur Badal, an MP and the daughter-in-law of Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal who was present at the function. The sarpanch was later arrested but was granted bail within hours. The state government has ordered a probe into the incident. (Read)
