Police officer held for accepting bribe of Rs 50,000

Thane: A police sub inspector was arrested by Navi Mumbai Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) here for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000 from a builder in Bhayandar police station here, sources said today.

According to the sources in ACB, the arrested accused Shiv Shankar More (23), attached to Bhayandar police station, had already collected the first instalment of Rs 75,000 of bribe from the complainant Iqbal Mahadhik for not arresting him in a property dispute case being investigated by the officer.

Mahadhik was carrying out construction work at a site near the Radhaswami Satsang Road in Bhayander(West). The work was halted due to a dispute with another property dealer.

Mahadhik and the property dealer had filed cross complaints with the Bhayander police station, police said.

When Mahadhik approached More to know the status of his complaint, he allegedly demanded Rs 5 lakh from him which was later settled at Rs 1.5 lakh.

More collected Rs 75,000 as the first instalment and was pestering Mahadhik for the remaining amount.

According to police, when Mahadhik delayed making payment, More threatened to make a false case against him following which he approached the ACB.

This is the third such incident involving Bhayander police.

On the earlier occasion, the Deputy Superintendent of Police of Bhayander Division, Navnath Sambathwad, was trapped by ACB while accepting a bribe of Rs. 4 lakh from a builder cum politician.

A police constable of the same police station was caught while accepting a bribe of Rs 2000 from a woman.
