Police officer held for killing man
Kanpur: A police inspector was arrested on Sunday on charges of kidnapping and killing a person who was detained for interrogation and later his body found in a village of Kanpur (Dehat) district, police said today.

J B Pandey, inspector at Rail Bazar police station, allegedly picked up Mukesh from Anandpuri here on March 4 and detained him for interrogation in a case related to the trade of narcotic substance.

According to the DIG of Police Kanpur, Prem Prakash, a body was found at Akbarpur in Kanpur (Dehat) district four days ago. Today, the body was identified as of Mukesh, he said.

After the identification of the body, Pandey was arrested and later suspended, the DIG said.

According to sources, Mukesh was allegedly beaten up by the police during which he died and his body was thrown away at a place, 80 kms from here.

The victim's wife Pappi alleged that when she went to the police station on March 6, she was told that her husband was sent to a jail for selling charas.

Not satisfied, Pappi complained about the matter to senior police officers who ordered a proper inquiry into the missing case, the police said.

Meanwhile, the DIG said the arrested inspector is being interrogated to know about the involvement of other policemen in the case.
