Lucknow: A brother-sister duo was killed and another injured on Monday when a vehicle in the cavalcade of an MLA in Uttar Pradesh knocked them down and hit a tree in Unchahar area of Rae Bareli district, the Lucknow police said.
Meera Devi (34) and brother Mahendra (25) were seriously injured when their bicycle was hit by a vehicle in the cavalcade of independent MLA, Raghuraj Pratap Singh Raja Bhaiyya, ADGP Brij Lal told reporters.
While Meera died on the spot, Mahendra succumbed to his injuries at a hospital. The accident occurred after tyre of the vehicle deflated near Arkha village this afternoon, he said.
After knocking down the siblings, the vehicle rammed into a tree leaving the driver seriously injured and he was admitted to a hospital.
The MLA was on his way to the capital when the mishap occurred, police said.
