Posing as man, this woman duped her own employer

Kollam, Kerala: A 29-yer-old woman who duped her employer and colleagues by posing as a man for several months was arrested by police in Kollam, on Saturday evening.

Rani, who worked a collection agent for a marble wholesaler as 'Sreekanth' in the guise of a man, ended up with police after she allegedly committed a financial fraud, police said.

Hailing from a poor family, Rani managed to get the job in April last by appearing as a 'smart young man' in pants and slack with closely-cropped hairs and clean-shaven face.

She also produced a forged ID card showing the name as Sreekanth and fake certificates of educational qualification in which the gender was identified as male.

Her lie got exposed the other day when she failed to report for duty after the Onam holiday. When the employer made inquiries, it was found that 'Sreekanth' had collected a huge sum from the retailers but did not deposit it to the firm.

The businessman then lodged a complaint with the police who traced his address and arrested him at home on the suburbs of the town .When the policemen questioned the parents of the youth, they admitted that they had only three daughters and no son.

Rani was then taken to a hospital and established that she was a woman after the gender check.

She is charged with cheating and impersonation and was remanded to judicial custody last night by a local court.

Sreekanth was known as Kannan for his pals with whom he used to ride on motorcycle, smoke cigarettes and even spent evenings in bar.

According to her employer, 'Sreekanth' was good at work and that was why he was taken into total confidence and was sent for collecting money from retailers as there was no reason to suspect his 'honesty' and competence.
