First the Jammu and Kashmir police claimed that Tufail Matoo died after being hit by a stone near the Ghani Stadium in Srinagar. Then they said it was murder, but the police was not responsible since they had not fired.

NDTV has now accessed Matoo's postmortem report which states that it was a police weapon that was fired as the cops were trying to control a stone pelting mob. What is unclear is whether it was a tear gas shell or a bullet that took Mattoo's life.

The 17-year-old was killed when protesters clashed with police a week ago.

A CID report submitted to the state government says the officer in charge at the time was operating outside his jurisdiction.
An internal inquiry headed by a DIG will now investigate the case.

"It will be visible for all to see that justice is done," said Farooq Ahmad, IGP Kashmir.

Mattoo's family just hopes that there is no repeat of the horror they have gone through.

"I don't want anybody else to witness what we witnessed," said Mohammad Ashraf, Tufail's father.

In February, a BSF commandant had ordered his constable to shoot 16-year-old Zahid Farooq in the Nishat area of Srinagar. The both of them were arrested and are facing trial on murder charges.
