Prime Minister to visit Hyderabad on Oct 19
Hyderabad: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will visit Hyderabad on October 19 to take part in a couple of programmes including the inaugural address of the general meeting of Third World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) in Hyderabad.

Singh will lay the foundation-stone for the prestigious Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) campus at Gachibowli here and also address the inaugural of the 21st general meeting of the Third World Academy of Sciences at the Hyderabad International Convention Centre.

Over 350 scientists from 35 countries are expected to attend the four-day meet of TWAS.

World-renowned statistician and professor Emeritus at Pennsylvania State University C R Rao will be presented the India Science Prize on the occasion.

The Prime Minister consented to lay the foundation for the TIFR project given his special bonding with the premier institute, according to official sources.

TIFR's Hyderabad campus is coming up on a 200-acre site on the Hyderabad Central University premises at Gachibowli. It will be completed in two phases over a period of ten years with a total investment of Rs 2,500 crore as part of TIFR's expansion programme, according to sources.

TIFR is an autonomous research institution under the Department of Atomic Energy and works in areas of Basic Sciences, Biology, Chemistry, Theoretical Computer Science, Mathematics and Physics.

The Hyderabad campus, once in full shape, is expected to have 200 permanent faculty, 1000 students and 300 post-doctoral researchers.
