Three nursing colleges run in a same building by separate education societies have put
the future of 80 students at stake, as the institutions are not recognized by the Nursing Council of Maharashtra.
The colleges--Savitribai Fuley Nursing School, Mother Teresa Nursing School and Priyadarshni Nursing School are run by three locals-- Sanjay Bansod, G S Wankhede, and P V Hivre, who claim to be principals of the these colleges without any proper qualification, students alleged.
They smelt a rat on Tuesday when their exams were conducted by the college administration instead of the Nursing Council of Maharashtra, which recently held exams of government recognized colleges.
The three colleges were started in August 2009 simultaneously and 80 students are undergoing nursing training in them.
The trio has allegedly taken Rs 40,000 towards tuition fee, Rs 18,000 towards mess fee and Rs. 5000 towards hostel fee from each student for the 18 month (11/2 year) course.
Most of the students have remitted the entire fee by now and a few others have paid the fees partially.
The building is hired on a monthly rent of Rs 16,000 from one Dnyaneshwar Roopnar and the colleges together have six teaching staff and one lady peon.
When the irregularities were exposed and victims marched to the city police station and lodged a joint complaint against the management on Tuesday evening.
Police have taken the principals into custody and also seized the documents. The students demanded immediate refund of their fee.
When contacted the trio said in unison that they had obtained permission from the Maharashtra State Vocational Training Board, Mumbai to run the training center for Nursing
and Midwifery Assistant Course.
"We are trying to get recognition from the Nursing Council of Maharashtra," said Wankhede. No arrests have been made so far.
