Ranchi:
Nearly 300 students from various medical colleges in Ranchi were lathicharged by the Jharkhand police on Monday as they blocked two national highways near the capital. This left many of them, even girls, severely injured.
The students were demanding better facilities from their colleges. They began by staging a peaceful sit-in. But things turned ugly when they moved to Ranchi-Jamshedpur highway and blocked it for close to six hours.
Local TV reports showed police personnel mercilessly beating students and dragging them. Lady officers were seen beating girls with lathis and pulling them with their hair.
