Puducherry:
Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry Virendra Kataria, who was hospitalised in Chennai following chest pain, today underwent a successful coronary bypass surgery.
A team of doctors, led by Dr MR Girinath, performed the coronary quadruple bypass graft surgery on 80-year-old Kataria at the Apollo Hospital, a Health Department release said.
The Lt Governor is "doing well", the release said.
Official sources told PTI that the surgery lasted for four and half hours.
Mr Kataria, who was admitted to the hospital on August 8 after he complained of chest pain, would have to be there for a week for recuperation, the sources added.
