Pune: 5 students held for assaulting youth

Pune: The Shivajinagar police on Thursday arrested five college students for their alleged involvement in abducting and assaulting a youth, Anoop Pandharinath Dhormale (23) of Pimple Gurav.

The suspects claimed that the victim allegedly duped them of Rs 3 lakh after assuring them of getting them passed in their college examination.

The suspects have been identified as Subodhkumar Singh (24) of Pashan; Rahul Anand Mirza (21) and Ritam Gautam Bose (20) of Thergaon; Deepakumar Yadav (23) of Sangvi and Adwait Arwade (21) of Senapati Bapat Road. The first four suspects hail from Jharkhand.

Dhormale was allegedly abducted from the Shivajinagar railway station and taken to a room in Sangvi where he was beaten up mercilessly before being admitted to a hospital.

Dhormale's father lodged a complaint with the Sangvi police station.

The Sangvi police nabbed the suspects and handed them over to the Shivajinagar police station since the abduction took place within the latter's jurisdiction. The Sangvi police led by assistant inspector Sarjerao Gavde rescued the victim. The suspects have been arrested under section 363 (kidnapping) and 323 (for causing hurt) of the Indian Penal Code, 1860.

Inspector Maya Bankar (crime) of Shivajinagar police station told media persons that the victim and suspects are students. "The suspects called Dhormale at the Shivajinagar railway station from where he was kidnapped," the police official said.
