Pune girl held for boyfriend's murder

Pune: The Pune police arrested 20-year-old Goldy Mathew, a resident of Dehu Road, on charges of murdering her lover Kanhaiyalal alias Surya Subramanyam Swami.

The police believe Mathew wanted to break up with him, but he was insisting on continuing the relationship.

Mathew is suspected to have murdered Swami with the help of some accomplices. Swami's father Subramanyam had also expressed his suspicion in his complaint to the police.

Swami, a student of first year commerce, was reported missing from Dehu Road since September 24 and his body was found floating in the Indrayani river basin on Friday, September 29 at Talegaon Dabhade.

"Goldy had a love affair with Swamy for the last three years. The two were studying in different colleges but had met each other during Friendship Day celebrations," said Police Inspector Sanjay Nikam of Talegaon Dabhade police station. "Goldy wanted to breakup with Swami as their relationship was going through difficult times. Swami insisted on continuing the relationship which may have irked Goldy."

The murder probe was initiated after Talegaon police exhumed Swami's buried body when his family alleged there had been lapses in the preliminary police inquiry. After the Swami family alleged that the dry railway ticket and a number and address written on it found in Surya's pant pocket was suspicious, police conducted a thorough investigation. However nothing suspicious was found during the course of investigation.

"The ticket was dry because it was in a plastic bag and Surya himself must have written the address and number on it," Nikam said.
