Pune man escapes death on railway tracks

Pune: A man in Pune escaped getting killed by an oncoming train by lying flat on the railway tracks that he was crossing.

According to the Government Railway Police (GRP), the man, in his 30s, was trying to cross the railway tracks around 10 pm on Tuesday.

"When he saw the train heading towards him, he got scared and froze," said a constable.

"As the train got closer he realised his mistake and lay down flat parallel to the railway tracks to escape death," he added.

The casualty medical officer on duty at Sassoon Hospital said that the victim was in a serious condition and suffered severe blood loss. However, he added that the victim would survive the accident.

"He has lost both his hands so nothing much can be said about the quality of life he will lead," the doctor said.

"But he will pull through," he added.

At the time of going to press, a case of accidental death was yet to be registered with the Government Railway Police.
