Hoshiarpur: A court in Punjab, which completed a rape trial last month in just eight days, today set another record by convicting and sentencing a rapist just three days after the charge-sheet was filed.
The Sessions court in Hoshiarpur convicted the accused for raping a four-year-old girl. The charge-sheet was filed on February 4 and the judge today sentenced the accused to 12 years in jail and imposed a fine of Rs 25,000.
"The case came up on February 4 and it was decided in just three days," said public prosecutor Amarjit Singh.
The accused had lured the girl with the promise of giving her sweets and raped her in the fields in December last year. He was caught by the family members of the girl who filed the complaint with the police. The case reached the court on Monday and it gave its verdict today.
