Bhopal:
Income-Tax department on Wednesday opened a bank locker allegedly belonging to Chhattisgarh cadre IAS officer B L Agrawal in Raipur and found Rs 15 lakh in it.
"A locker belonging to B L Agrawal's brother Pavan Agrawal was opened today by the I-T officials, who recovered Rs 15 lakh in cash from it," top I-T sources said.
"We suspect the locker belongs to B L Agrawal as a few days back it was transferred by the bank officials by tampering the documents in the name of his brother," the sources said.
If it was established that documents were tampered with by the bank officials, the matter will be referred to the CBI for a probe, they said.
The I-T officials also found nearly 250 passbooks and cheques in the name of residents of Kharora village from Agrawal's chartered accountant's office, they said.
These bank accounts were opened in the name of villagers without their knowledge by Agrawal and his family members. Nearly Rs 40 crore was deposited in these accounts of which about Rs 20 crore was transferred to fictitious firms allegedly floated by him, the sources said.
In Bhopal, the I-T officials today opened three lockers of ICICI Prudential official Seema Jaiswal. While two chests were found empty, the report on the third one was awaited, they added. Agrawal and Jaiswal were among the officials raided by I-T Department last week.
