Ambala: Police today registered a rape case against a local BJP leader, a charge denied by the politician.
"A case under section 376 (rape), 420 (cheating), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 323 (Voluntarily causing hurt) was registered against Ambala rural unit BJP president Sanjay Sharma," ASP Devender Yadav told reporters here.
The action was taken following a complaint filed by a middle aged married woman with Naggal police on Wednesday.
The woman had alleged that Sharma had sexually exploited her and took Rs 3.2 lakh bribe under the pretext of giving her a government job.
Refuting the charges, Sharma said it is a political conspiracy to defame him and he is ready to face any probe in this matter.
