Rats eat up dead woman's fingers at hospital

Latur, Maharashtra: In a shocking incident, rodents ate away fingers of a deceased woman at the civil hospital here, police said on Wednesday.

Sarjabai Hadude, who was staying in the hospital to attend to her pregnant daughter, died in her sleep on Tuesday night.

Sarjabai's relatives, in the morning, noticed that three fingers of her left hand and two of the right were eaten by rats.

Her daughter said there were too many rats around and complaints to the administration had produced no action.

Hospital dean Satish Deshpande admitted that the administration has failed to curb the rat menace.

Last year, at the same hospital, stray dogs had bitten off the leg of a deceased girl, an AIDS victim.
