Kanpur:
A 14-year-old schoolgirl in Kanpur committed suicide on Saturday by hanging herself after she was allegedly scolded for watching a TV serial, police said.
Menaka, a Class IX student, committed suicide at her residence in Tejabmill colony, after her father Surendra Singh, a railway employee, reprimanded her for watching a TV serial.
"Menaka did not go to school today (Saturday) and was watching a TV serial in the morning. Later, after being scolded by her father, she took the extreme step, hanging herself with her 'dupatta'," Superintendent of Police (East) Kushar Saurabh told reporters in Kanpur, some 80 km from Lucknow.
