Rishikesh: Elephant on rampage kills three
Rishikesh: A roughed tusker has become a menace for the people traveling along the Rishikesh-Dehradun highway. Three people have been killed and over a dozen injured in a period of one week, as an elephant repeatedly goes on a rampage on this route.

Onlookers say the elephant has been creating havoc by blocking the highway, upturning cars, tempos and trampling the occupants without the slightest provocation.

The area comes under the Rishikesh Forest Division, however, forest officials have not done anything to curtail the problem, say passers by.

Now, the forest officials have called an emergency meeting with experts from the wildlife institute to discuss how to deal with the situation at hand.

"We are looking at the situation. Talks are on with experts and a decision will be taken after the higher authorities convey their message. Until then we are not in a position to do much," said Meenakshi Joshi DFO, Rishikesh Forest Division.

So while the forest officials take their time to come to a consensus on the future of the rouged elephant, for commuters on the Rishikesh-Dehradun highway the nightmare continues.
