Ahmedabad:
A gang of robbers managed to escape after a police chase and several rounds of firing near Ahmedabad on Monday. There were no casualties, the police said.
The sequence of events began near Kamdar Kendra in Viramgam where the robbers travelling in a mini-truck fired a couple of rounds at police when they tried to stop them from stealing cows, police added.
According to police, they fired one round in retaliation but the robbers turned on their vehicle and dashed into the police van and escaped towards Sanand Taluka.
In Sanand, they were intercepted by the local police near Khoda village where there was an exchange of fire between the two sides, they added.
After the robbers realised that they had been surrounded, they drove their vehicle in full speed and crashed with a police van which was blocking the way and pushed it off the road and escaped.
The police have cordoned off the area and are on a look-out for the robbers.
