New Delhi: Thwarting an alleged bid to smuggle gold across the Nepal border, security personnel of SSB today seized 2.5-kg bars of gold and nabbed three people from Kishanganj in Bihar.
A joint team of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and Customs department nabbed three people hailing from Buxar in the state when they were taking the gold from the Kishanganj railway station, a senior official said.
Two gold bars of one kg each and another piece of half kg were seized from the trio. Five mobile phones, one tablet personal computer and cash of Rs 29,460 was also seized from them, the official said.
The Customs authorities are investigating a possible smuggling bid in the case and have registered a regular case under the relevant laws.
The value of the seized gold is about Rs 80 lakh, the official said.
