New Delhi:
Delhi Government on Friday handed over a compensation of Rs two lakh to the widow of a man who died following exposure to a radioactive material at a scrapyard in the national capital.
A cheque of Rs two lakh was handed over to Nandini Devi, the widow of Rajender Kumar, who died of multi-organ failure after radiation exposure last month at Mayapuri scarpyard.
Health Minister Kiran Walia said the government will also provide widow pension to Nandini so that she can take care of her children.
She said government would also explore possibility of providing a contractual employment to next kin of Kumar in any of the government hospitals.
Rajender, 35, a worker at a shop in Mayapuri scrap market, had died on April 26 at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences.
He was among 10 people who fell ill earlier this month after coming in contact with a radioactive material which was later identified as Cobalt-60.
