Coimbatore:
A 10-month-old boy, who had swallowed a one-and-half inch long open safety pin which was stuck in the middle of his food pipe, was saved after a lifesaving endoscopy procedure at a city hospital in Coimbatore.
The boy from Dharamapuram in Tirupur district was brought to VGM Hospital a couple of days ago and the X-ray revealed that the pin was stuck in the middle of the oesophagus, Dr VG Mohanprasad, Director of the Hospital, said on Wednesday.
With the aid of foreign body forceps, the pin was dislodged and pushed into stomach through endoscope and removed without damaging the oesophageal wall, during a 45-minute procedure, he said. He added that the boy was discharged in the evening after being kept under observation for more than three hours.
