Chennai: The Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly today adopted an amendment to the Chennai City Police Act, 1997 (extension to the Cities of Salem, Tiruchirapalli and Tirunelveli) in order to enlarge the jurisdiction limits of Salem city by including certain areas.
The bill was tabled by Chief Minister Jayalalithaa and passed by the house.
As per the bill, Kondalampatti, Steel Plant, Veeranam police stations and 14 mother villages adjoining Salem will be annexed into the city police limit.
This comes after Ms Jayalalithaa's announcement during the Collectors' and Police Officers' Conference recently.
