Auraiya, Uttar Pradesh:
An 18-year-old schoolgirl was raped and then poisoned in the Auraiya district of Uttar Pradesh on Thursday.
The girl was raped when she had gone to the fields to defecate. Her tormentor also tried to strangle her. She was choking when her family members found her in the fields. She later died in a hospital. The accused is missing.
"I ran as soon as I heard my daughter screaming from the farms. When I reached there, I saw this guy Latin running towards the river. He had crossed the road by the time I reached there. My daughter was in a bad condition. She said he raped her and also gave her poison," the victim's father said.
The girl's body has been sent for postmortem. An FIR has been lodged after a complaint from the parents.
Several incidents of assaults on young women have been reported from Uttar Pradesh in the last week.
Just yesterday, a teenager from Lucknow was allegedly shot by her neighbour for refusing a motorcycle ride.
