New Delhi:
A 17-year-old school student allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison at his residence in New Delhi on Sunday after his friend's father reprimanded and asked him to concentrate on studies rather than the friendship he shared with his daughter, police said.
Samarath Gupta, a standard XII student studying at a private school in the national capital, was found dead in his room in his northwest Delhi residence when his mother went looking for him. She informed the police, who recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem.
Police said Gupta apparently took the extreme step after his "friend's father reprimanded him in front of his principal yesterday."
The girl's father told Gupta to concentrate on his studies rather than the friendship he shared with his daughter, police said.
A friend of Gupta claimed that he was sad ever since he was scolded by the girl's father and had even told some of his friends that he wanted to end his life.
